Acheron Audit
A niche accounting tool that uses an AI 'auditor' to continuously scan company transactions for anomalies and potential fraud, presenting suspicious items for verification in a 'case file' interface.
Acheron Audit is an accounting software designed for freelancers and small businesses, inspired by the dystopian vigilance of 'Blade Runner' and the omniscient AI of 'Hyperion'. The core concept is that every financial transaction has a story, and some stories are deceptive. Traditional accounting software just records the data; Acheron interrogates it.
The Story: You are a small business owner navigating a complex financial landscape, where hidden threats like duplicate invoices, subscription creep, and outright fraud (the 'replicants') can bleed your company dry. Acheron is your personal 'Voight-Kampff' machine—an AI partner that constantly monitors your financial data streams, not just to balance the books, but to detect anything that feels 'off'. It’s your tireless digital detective, working to preserve your company's financial integrity.
How It Works:
1. Unified Data Stream (The 'All-Thing'): Users connect their financial data sources via secure APIs (Plaid for bank accounts, Stripe for payments, email forwarding for invoices). This creates a single, comprehensive ledger for the AI to analyze, much like Hyperion's data network.
2. The AI Auditor (The 'Chronicler'): The heart of the system is a multi-layered AI. It uses a Large Language Model (LLM) to parse and understand unstructured data from PDFs and emails, automatically categorizing expenses (the 'AI Workflow' inspiration). Simultaneously, a machine learning anomaly detection model learns the user's typical spending patterns.
3. The 'Voight-Kampff' Test: When a transaction deviates from the norm—a vendor charges a different amount, a subscription renews at a higher price, a payment occurs at an unusual time, or an invoice seems like a duplicate—the AI flags it. It doesn't just create an alert; it generates a 'Case File'. This file presents the transaction and explains exactly why it's suspicious in plain English (e.g., 'This invoice number has been seen before with a different total,' or 'This vendor payment is 3 standard deviations above your monthly average.'). The user is then prompted to 'Verify' or 'Retire' the transaction, effectively training the AI on what is normal for their business.
Niche & Viability: This project is niche by focusing solely on automated auditing and anomaly detection, not full-service bookkeeping. It's low-cost to build for an individual using Python, open-source ML libraries (like Scikit-learn), and affordable API services. The earning potential is high via a simple SaaS model (e.g., $15-$25/month), as it solves a high-value problem—preventing financial loss—for a massive and underserved market of solopreneurs who lack a dedicated finance department.
