Tatooine Time Traveler: An AR Price-Discovery Experience
An augmented reality (AR) application that simulates visiting a bustling marketplace on Tatooine, allowing users to 'scan' fictional goods and discover their 'real-world' price equivalents based on e-commerce data.
Inspired by the E-Commerce Pricing scraper, the narrative of 'Nightfall' (which explores ancient civilizations and their enduring artifacts), and the iconic marketplace scenes in 'Star Wars: A New Hope,' this project aims to create an engaging AR experience for virtual tourists. Users will launch the app and, using their smartphone's camera, 'look' at virtual objects rendered in an AR overlay of a desert bazaar reminiscent of Mos Eisley. Each object, whether a moisture vaporator, a Jawa robe, or a bantha milk carton, will have an associated fictional price. Tapping on an object will trigger the app to perform a live or near-live scrape of e-commerce sites (e.g., Amazon, eBay) for a functionally similar or analogous real-world item. The app will then display the scraped real-world price, allowing users to compare the 'galactic' cost with our own. This creates a fun, educational, and niche application. For instance, a 'Gaderffii stick' might be priced at 500 credits, and upon scanning, the app finds a real-world bo staff priced at $50, drawing a playful parallel. The niche lies in its blend of pop culture fandom with practical price comparison, making it appealing to Star Wars enthusiasts and AR hobbyists. Implementation is low-cost as it leverages existing AR SDKs (like ARKit or ARCore) and web scraping libraries. High earning potential can be realized through a freemium model: basic scanning is free, while premium features could include saving favorite items, comparing prices across multiple vendors simultaneously, or accessing historically 'valuable' fictional items from other sci-fi universes.
