Chronicle Weaver: Memento-Inspired E-commerce Price History Database
This project builds a niche database management system that tracks and visualizes the price history of e-commerce products, drawing inspiration from the fragmented narrative of Memento and the data-gathering of an e-commerce scraper.
Inspired by the fragmented, reverse-chronological storytelling of 'Memento' and the data-intensive nature of 'E-Commerce Pricing' scrapers, 'Chronicle Weaver' is a database management project designed for individuals. The core concept is to create a system that not only scrapes and stores e-commerce product price data but presents it in a non-linear, 'event-based' fashion. Users would define 'memory fragments' – significant price changes, sales, or specific historical price points for chosen products. The database would then store these 'fragments' along with timestamps and context (e.g., 'Black Friday Sale', 'Price Drop by 15%'). Instead of a simple chronological chart, users could query and explore the price history by 'reconstructing' events, similar to how Leonard Shelby pieces together his past. For instance, one could ask: 'Show me all the times this laptop went on sale for under $1000' or 'What was the price of this item immediately before its biggest ever discount?'. The 'low-cost' aspect comes from using open-source database technologies (like PostgreSQL or SQLite) and simple web scraping libraries (like BeautifulSoup or Scrapy). The 'niche' aspect is its unique presentation and querying of historical price data, appealing to bargain hunters, market researchers, or even those who enjoy the intellectual challenge of piecing together information. The 'high earning potential' lies in offering this specialized data visualization and analytical service as a premium subscription to e-commerce platforms, individual power shoppers, or small businesses looking for competitive price intelligence. Think of it as a more granular, user-driven, and visually engaging alternative to standard price tracking tools.
