Monetization Autopsy
An automated competitive intelligence tool that dissects competitor payment funnels and pricing pages. It provides a deep analysis of their monetization strategies, feature-gating, and technology stack.
Inspired by the layered analysis of 'Inception', the assembly of disparate parts from 'Frankenstein', and the data extraction of an 'SEO Keywords' scraper, 'Monetization Autopsy' is a niche SaaS tool for the 'Payment Systems' domain.
The Story: In the hyper-competitive digital landscape, understanding how your rivals make money is crucial. Founders and marketers spend countless hours manually visiting competitor websites, signing up for trials, and taking screenshots to decode pricing strategies. 'Monetization Autopsy' is the 'creator' that, like Dr. Frankenstein, stitches together these scattered pieces of information—pricing tiers, checkout flows, payment gateway code, and hidden upsells—to bring to life a complete, coherent view of a competitor's monetization 'creature'.
The Concept: The project operates on a principle similar to 'Inception'—it goes deeper than the surface layer. Instead of just scraping prices, it maps the entire 'architecture' of a company's revenue funnel.
- Layer 1 (The Pricing Page): The tool scrapes all visible pricing tiers, features, and discount structures (e.g., annual vs. monthly).
- Layer 2 (The Checkout Flow): It analyzes the steps to purchase, identifying friction points, required fields, and the payment processors being used (Stripe, Braintree, PayPal, etc.) by inspecting the site's code.
- Layer 3 (The Upsell Dream): It detects hidden offers, one-time-purchases, and post-purchase upsells that are only presented deep within the user journey.
How It Works:
1. Input: A user enters a competitor's domain name or a specific pricing page URL.
2. Scraping & Assembly: A cloud-based headless browser (like Puppeteer or Playwright) navigates the competitor's site. It follows links from the pricing page to the signup and checkout forms, collecting HTML, network requests, and screenshots at each step. This is the 'Frankenstein' stage of assembling the parts.
3. Analysis & Extraction: The collected data is parsed to extract key 'keywords' and patterns. It identifies pricing models (per-user, usage-based, flat-rate), detects the JavaScript libraries of specific payment providers, and flags any dynamic offers or exit-intent popups. This is the 'SEO Scraper' intelligence.
4. The Report (The Inception): The user receives a detailed 'Autopsy Report' in a clean dashboard. This report visualizes the competitor's entire monetization funnel, compares it against other competitors, and provides actionable insights. This deep, layered understanding allows the user to 'plant an idea' for a more effective pricing strategy in their own business.
